Diego Velazquez, a Spanish painter. This portrait was painted of Velazquez' assistant in the early 1600s. This was a class practice using cool and warm colors, oil on canvas 8" x 10".

JOY
This is an oil on canvas, 29" x 29". It is of two little girls at a train stop in Peru, waiting to receive candy from tourists. The joy they are expressing is they just received, instead of candy, paper and pencils.

So Who's Pearfect?
This is an oil on canvas. 6" x 12", the second oil painting I did while learning.
About The Artist
I currently live in Santa Fe, NM, with my husband Gary, and our two lovely Miniature Schnauzers, Schatzie and Fritz. Additionally, we recently adopted a beautiful rescue terrier mix named Billie. We moved to Santa Fe in 2018 from Asheville, NC, and Naples, Florida, drawn by the beauty of the mountains and the ease of living. We previously lived in Naples and attempted retirement there, but found it difficult to tolerate the humidity and increasingly long summers. Here, we enjoy four seasons and cool mountain evenings, embracing the casual lifestyle that this city is known for. Recently, I opened my studio in our home, and in such a comfortable and creative atmosphere, I hope to have a more complete experience with my art.
Artist Statement
My artistic journey began at the age of 60—a late bloomer discovering the vibrant world of colors and canvas. My initiation into this realm was marked by the honor of having my maiden painting accepted into a juried show. Embracing the timeless medium of oil paints, I find solace and expression in the delicate art of capturing still life. Each stroke tells a story, a testament to the beauty that unfolds when passion and creativity know no age. I also enjoy watercolor and acrylics. As an artist, I have the freedom to create anything, and I am ultimately inspired by the shapes, lines, and forms I find in everything around me. Diverse textures and the unlimited spectrum of hues found in nature motivate my desire to express my art at ever-increasing levels of complexity. The intuitive world—the world of ideas, concepts, and impressions—also allows me to bring together sources of inspiration into my paintings. It is my desire that people feel as if they are part of my art, and not just observers.

"Wine with Fruit and Cheese" is a vibrant oil on canvas piece, measuring 20" x 20". This artwork captures the essence of a delightful gathering, blending rich colors and textures that invite viewers to savor the moment. I am thrilled to share that this painting is my very first oil painting and it was accepted into a juried show at the Von Liebig Art Center in Naples, Florida, marking a significant milestone in my artistic journey.
